Curriculum
This course consists of step-by-step materials that help you understand the process of creating icon packs. Each module focuses on practical steps: from planning to final checking. The materials are structured so you can gradually develop skills in working with icons in a unified style. The course was created in December 2025 and includes examples from real Iconastra packs.
Module 1. Basics of Planning an Icon Pack
- How to define the theme and scope of the collection (from 30 to 500+ elements)
- Choosing a unified style: stroke weight, corner radii, proportions
- Creating a base grid and rules for all icons in the pack
- Examples from Free Pack and Nova Bundle: how to start with small collections
- Practical recommendations for organizing folders and file names
Module 2. Drawing Basic Shapes and Elements
- Working with geometric primitives (circle, square, rectangle)
- Creating simple interface symbols (arrows, gears, clouds)
- How to maintain consistent stroke weight across all elements
- Examples from Pulse Kit: how to draw symbolic shapes (zodiac, planets)
- Tips for balancing detail and simplicity
Module 3. Thematic Icons: Weather, Nature, Tech
- Creating icons for specific themes (sun, rain, snow, wind)
- How to convey different states and moods through shapes and lines
- Examples from Vertex Set: detailing instruments and natural phenomena
- Working with organic forms (plants, mountains, rivers) from Luma Collection
- How to scale icons without losing clarity
Module 4. Specialized Collections: Maps, Navigation, POI
- Drawing elements for geo-interfaces (restaurants, hotels, transport)
- Ensuring readability at different map scales
- Examples from Luma Collection: routes, signs, natural objects
- How to combine icons in one layout to create a cohesive map
- Practice adapting elements for light and dark modes
Module 5. Industrial and Technical Icons
- Creating detailed shapes for industry (tools, gears, pipes)
- How to convey functionality through contours and proportions
- Examples from Beacon Collection: machines, conveyors, logistics
- Working with a large number of elements in one style
- Tips for organizing complex technical packs
Module 6. Flags and Global Symbols
- Drawing country flags with accurate colors and proportions
- Structuring a large collection (by continents, alphabetically)
- Examples from Forge Collection: how to work with 500+ elements
- How to maintain consistent quality across a large number of icons
- Practical recommendations for checking and sorting
Module 7. Final Checking and Pack Organization
- Checking consistency: stroke weight, spacing, alignment
- Testing icons on different backgrounds and sizes
- How to prepare files for download
- Organizing the ZIP archive with folders and descriptions
- How to update the pack and add new elements in the future
Each module includes examples from real Iconastra packs (Free Pack, Nova Bundle, Pulse Kit, Vertex Set, Luma Collection, Beacon Collection, Forge Collection) to show how theoretical principles are applied in practice. The materials are designed for step-by-step study and use in daily design work.
